hi, this is dr. hourglass, and welcome toanother video in our channel star bodies. today we are going to discuss eating excessivelybefore surgery. in this channel, we discuss everything you need to know to get that star body that you want. welcome back. i have noticed a trend where patients do not have a clear idea of the goal of liposuction and a tummy tuck. many patients believe that when you perform a tummy tuck, the surgeon will be able to remove all thefat in the body. let’s discuss what happens when we gain weight. when we gain weight, there is a proportionally an increase in fat in every part of the body.
this includes not only the superficial fat, but also the deep visceral fat around internal organs, muscles, etc., which is impossible to remove with cosmetic surgery. i have plenty of patients who come for consultations and are slightly overweight and are candidates for surgery, but then priorto surgery, they gain more weight. when i ask them why they gain weight, they say theybelieve the surgery will be able to remove the extra fat they gain during this periodof time. so they go on an eating marathon just before surgery. “let’s go and eat because i’m going to have surgery!â€
if you gain twenty pounds before surgery, thinking that the surgeon will be able to insert a cannula and suck out all the fatand deflate you like a balloon, you are in for a rude awakening. when liposuction is performed, the surgeon can remove only the fat that is superficial to the muscles. it is impossible to remove every fat cell or every single pound of weight gain by just inserting a cannula and performing liposuction. you need to understand the limitations ofthe procedure. cosmetic surgery is not a weight loss program.
it is a body contouring procedure. in other words, when liposuction is performed, you are not going to lose a lot of weight. cosmetic surgery is not a lap-band. it is not a gastric sleeve. it is not a weight loss procedure. understanding the concept of body contouring surgery versus weight loss surgery is crucial for you to have realistic expectations of what a cosmetic procedure can do for you. in this video we discuss eating before surgery. next week, we will discuss the idea of “bad scar, bad surgeon.â€
