way back in the day, when i was training, i was told never to doliposuction with the tummy tuckat the same time because it could interfere withthe blood flow to the tissues, and you could havea piece of skin die. once i got outin practice though, i quickly realized that liposuctionwas absolutely necessary, to get a good resultswith a tummy tuck
and there aretwo reasons why. first of all, when you do a tummy tuck you flatten out the tummyquite nicely. if you don't do anythingto the love handles, okay, which don't really change. they suddenly become moreprominent and obvious. number two is,when we do a tummy tuck, i remove skinfrom the pubic area to approximately the levelof your belly button.
and then we'll take thatupper skin and fat and bring it downto the pubic area. if you pinch the fat and skinnext to your belly button you'll seethat it's quite thick. and then if you pinch the skinnext to your pubic area you'll see its quite thin. so, if you don't thin outthat upper skin and fat, what'll happenis after the surgery, you'll see thatfrom the side
your stomachcomes down like this and when you get to the incisionit sort of jogs it. which kinda defeatsthe purpose. we would likeit to be quite smooth. so, soon into practicei started doing liposuction with every tummy tuckthat i perform. and i can tell youwith certainty, after at leasta thousand tummy tucks i have never had a patientwho lost a piece of skin.
knock on wood.[knocking] interestingly, over the years, gradually paperswere published in the plastic surgerymedical journals showing that liposuctionand a tummy tuck, in the medical literatureit's called lipoabdominoplasty, was actually a verysafe technique.
