in a select number of patients who havecome to me for a tummy tuck, they actually have not so muchskin excess that they really need a full tummy tuck and in fact for some of those patients we canperform a mini tummy tuck under local anesthesia. the idea isjust to get rid of a little bit the extra skin below the belly button. usually best candidates for this procedure are patients for whom the excess skin isreally localized just below the belly button and they don't have a lot of it in those patients a mini tummy tuckworks well
i can place the incision very low, and the idea is to take out a little bit of the skin below the belly button to tighten things up below and really leave the belly button alone so that things heal quite quickly. the procedure itself usually takes about an hour and a half as mentioned before under localanesthesia and it's designed to be limited so thatpatients can recover quite quickly. in terms of the post op recovery, there are some dressings on the area aftersurgery as always i usually do still have patients wear acompression garment
for about two to six weeksafterward. occasionally i will have some drains which are tubes that are put underneath the skin to remove any fluid that can accumulate for the first couple of weeks if that's the case, the drains usually come out at about a week after surgery. and then i follow up for a couple of monthsto make sure that the scars continue to improve. usually they can go back to all their forms of exercise at about sixweeks which includes lifting heavy things and going back tothe gym. overall it's a very select number of patients that can be candidates for this procedurebut for those patients
it works very well
